Queenstown

Whereas Te Anau was quiet and underdeveloped, the same can not be said for Queenstown.

Hub of activity, with every outdoor activity available. Lots of bars and eateries, outdoor equipment and tourist shops.

Got a lovely flat with views down the lake and a helluva hill to get to.

After food and drink, and rearranging accommodation, as we are not now going up the west coast. The first stop was the Cablecar.

Now the views were amazing.

The day was finished with a walk in the park.

On Our first full day it was a trip to Arrowtown a tourist trap set in beautiful woodland.

Can’t say I liked the town, but I loved the scenery. No photos yet, as I am using the DSLR more.

Then a little stop for the Shotover River Canyon.

Walked down to the beach and the mouth of the canyon.

The Shotover boats were not running. Unlike Joe and Tina, I can’t say I was sad.

As the weather improved, so did the sandfly.Thee bites are bloody irritating

The walk down to the beach passed a bizarre collection of vintage tractors.

Then it was a trip down the Glenorchy Road. This was rated (by someone) as one of the top 10 scenic roads in the world. Don’t know about that, but it was stunning.

The first few kms were nothing special, then it just opened up.

The settlement of Glenorchy was nice,e and the views were amazing.

The car hire only allowed us to go on the road to Priory Road when it turned to gravel.

This did allow us to cross the Rees River.

the car hire didn’t say anything about going down Priory Road, so we followed it for a few minutes to the Dart River

And saw a couple of jet boats in full flight

Booked to go on the Dart Wilderness experience.

One last thing for the day – the crazy Dream Garden. A Dutchman and his wife have turned their house and garden to an

exhibition of his work and sculptures of yoga positions (again most photos are on dslr)

Throughout I am using the phone for snapshots and panoramas. But more importantly they are geotagged so I know where I took them. So some places might only have a poor photo not worth posting.
